Rockaway Beach, Pacifica CA.

Rockaway Beach was an important limestone rock quarry during the development of San Francisco. A railroad once made the 7 mile commute from San Francisco a short trip, enabling the rapid development of the shoreline in a way that wouldn’t be allowed today.

This development around Rockaway Beach makes it a unique experience along the generally undeveloped and protected San Mateo County Coast. Rockaway Beach Avenue, at the center of the beach, is home to a variety of variety of shops, restaurants and budget hotel rooms. Nick’s Seafood Restaurant, a local landmark since 1927, is located at the end near the ocean.
